| This site is the
low-down on 56k concerns and
considerations for Eagles Nest, Ltd.
Subscribers. There is little
"technical information" here
about 56k, for a more technical
discussion of how 56k works read the white
paper. If you have any
questions on 56k that are not answered
through the Eagles Nest, Ltd. K56flex
Support Site, please contact k56flex@eaglesnest.net. For

Q1: Is 56k
really going to work for me? If I buy a
56k modem to use with this service will I
actually get full 56k speeds?
A: You will
probably not get a consistent, full 56k
connect. More typical speeds will be
between 28.8k-45k. These results will
vary from person to person, depending
mostly on line conditions. Specifically,
if you live over 14,600 feet from the
Telco CO, you will not see the faster
speeds. Refer to the white
paper for a technical
description of how 56k works and why it
may not. to Top of

|
Q2: To use the
56k service do I need to upgrade/purchase
a new modem?
A: Yes.
Unless you already have a 56k modem which
supports K56flex, you'll need to
upgrade/purchase a new modem. You may be
able to upgrade your 28.8 or 33.6 modem
to 56k with just a software update --
contact your modem manufacturer to
confirm this and for pricing on such an
upgrade. If you're modem cannot be
software upgraded you'll need to aquire
new hardware to connect at 56k.

Q3: How much
does 56k cost?
A: Eagles
Nest Ltd. is offering 56k service for the
same rates as all our other dialup
packages. to Top of

Q4: I currently
have a US Robotics X2 56k modem. Will
this work at 56k? How about at
33.6k/28.8k/V.34?
A: The US
Robotics X2 56k protocol is not
compatible with K56flex and will
not communicate with Eagles Nest, Ltd. at
56k. However, you will be able to use
your US Robotics X2 modem to communicate
at 33.6 and lower speeds. In the near
future a 56k standard will be announced;
at that time both US Robotics and Lucent
Technologies/Rockwell have commited to
supporting the 56k standard. This means
that if you currently have a US Robotics
56k modem you very well may be able to
use it at 56k speeds in the near future.
This should happen sometime this fall.

Q5: I've
decided to purchase a 56k modem, does
Eagles Nest recommend a particular brand
of modem?
A: We
recommend the Creative Labs Modem Blaster
56 Kflex modem. Others that have
proven reliable are the Motorola
ModemSURFR 56K and the Zoom Fax/Modem 56K
-- all of these modems are
reasonably priced at less than $200 and
allow for future software updates and
easy Plug and Play installation.

Q6: Ok, I've
purchased a K56flex™
compatible 56k modem, but I'm not getting
connected at 56k speeds? Why? What can I
do?
A: Reaching
56k speeds is pushing the envelope of
analog communications. While Eagles Nest,
Ltd. has done everything possible to
provide 56k service, it may not be
possible to reach or sustain those speeds
and the success of 56k will differ for
each subscriber. If you cannot attain
speeds up to 56k there is little that can
be done to dramatically improve your
speed. Possible problems with internal
wiring and your telephone cable pair
could be investigated as a potential
contributing factor in low connect speeds. Again, the 14,600
foot rule applies here also. to Top of Page
