We use DSL certified circuits from Bell Atlantic

While almost any copper telephone wire can be used to offer DSL the quality of the copper pair used effects the quality of the connection, actual speeds realized and the reliability of the DSL circuit. Almost all DSL providers use lower cost uncertified copper pairs provided by Bell Atlantic. Eagles Nest orders DSL circuits through a DSL CLEC (local exchange carrier) which only orders DSL certified circuits from Bell Atlantic under a special tariff. While these special DSL certified circuits cost more they provide faster more reliable access.

We offer a high performance DSL network without any bridges or modems to slow you down

Eagles Nest only uses routers to resolve routing issues at your location on our Month-to-Month DSL service in Bell Atlantic service areas. Most other DSL providers use DSL bridges or modems to reduce cost. While bridges or modems save on equipment cost, they can significantly reduce the speed of the DSL network. When a DSL bridge or modem is used routing issues must be resolved on the DSL Providers router. These routing issues must be sent from your location to the DSL Provider, resolved and then sent back. If you are using a bridge or modem you waste your time waiting while your routing issues are resolved. When a large number of routing issues need to be resolved at any one time the DSL Providers routers can become overloaded causing significant additional delay. In GTE telephone company service areas, where CrossLink must use DSL modems, there is a significant difference in DSL response times, especially during peak access periods.

Using a router or proxy server improves performance by eliminating the need to send routing issues back to the DSL Providers router. How significantly performance improves depends on how many bridges and modems are use on the network at the time you are on. If a large number of bridges and modems are in use, then your access speed can be reduced because too much bandwidth is being used for routing traffic. Even worse, the DSL provider's routers can become overloaded slowing down every transaction and delaying everyone.

We offer speeds up to 2Mbps available depending on distance to the telephone company "CO"

CrossLink offers 128Kbps, 256Kbps, 512Kbps, 768Kbps, 1Mbps, 1.5Mbps and 2Mbps DSL services. The actual speed available depends on your distance to the telephone company "CO". In Bell Atlantic service areas DSL is only available within three miles of the Bell Atlantic telephone company "CO."

We have fast local T-3 access to the Internet instead of sending your information across the country

You have the fastest possible connection to the Internet over our T3 circuits directly into the Internet at Tyson's Corner, Virginia, the nearest Internet access point in the Mid-Atlantic. Many other DSL Providers delay your surfing by transporting your information to New England or the West Coast before it enters the Internet.

We include backup Internet access should a DSL circuit ever fail

Every Eagles Nest DSL subscriber also has a backup dial-in Internet access account which can be used to call into the closest CrossLink local access site should the DSL circuit or router ever fail. While outages are extremely rare cables can be cut and equipment can fail. The backup account is provided to allow the subscriber to download E-mail and continue working until the DSL service is restored.

We k understand your need for security

CrossLink only uses routers with it's Month-to-Month DSL service to minimize the risk of your system's security being easily breached. It is virtual child's play for a hacker to access your system when an Ethernet bridge or modem is used. While the router offers some protection we recommend installation of a Firewall if there is any data on the system or network you are using to access the Internet that you wish to keep secure, can not afford to lose or can not afford to have disclosed. While Firewall software can be installed in a router this can significantly slow down your Internet access. We recommend installation of a Firewall between the router provided by us and your system or network. Please consult with your network or systems consultant for additional information on Firewalls.

We protect your privacy

In contrast to other DSL providers, Eagles Nest does not supplement its revenue by selling your name, address, telephone number, E-mail address or profiles of the web sites you visit.

Conduct video conferencing, telephone or messaging sessions and meetings for free. Install Microsoft's Net Meeting or Cu-SeeMe from Cornell University for free and then use CrossLink's Business ILS servers for free. CrossLink even has a customized version of Net Meeting with all of the CrossLink ILS server information which you can download and install in minutes. Use as a full video conferencing program or, if you prefer, use as a voice only or written message only program.

We don't sell ads which you must read to use the service

While many DSL Providers waste your time and abuse your bandwidth downloading advertising they have sold, We don't supplement it's revenue by selling advertising and then forcing you to read ads.

Type any message you want and whenever you receive an E-mail your personal message will automatically be sent to the sender acknowledging your receipt of their E-mail. We provide unrestricted access to over 26,000 newsgroups on CrossLink's News server

For the fastest possible access to news we provide access to over 26,000 news groups on our own News server.

* The service as described is available on a Month-to-Month basis in selected Bell Atlantic Service areas. In other Bell Atlantic service areas DSL is only available on an annual contract basis from an alternate DSL CLEC who contracts with Bell Atlantic for copper wire pairs in those areas.
