Author/illustrator Dee Carstarphen spent 30 years aboard sailboats: a 76' Brixham Trawler (featured in MAVERICK SEA FARE), to the 120' Glouster Schooner ADVENTURE (the subject of WINDJAMMER COOKING): and the 30 foot ketch SEA WIND, in which she researched THE CONCH BOOK and NARROW WATERS. She currently lives with her husband in Virginia, and sails an 18' catboat on the Chesapeake Bay.
